Guitar Lessons

After 27 years of playing, graduating from Berklee College of Music, hundreds of gigs in virtually every style and venue, and thousands of lessons taught, I know what it takes to become not just a good guitar player, but a good musician. The lessons I teach are informed by those years of experience.

My teaching encompasses the following concepts:

Rhythm

Technique

Chords

Music Theory and Harmony

Rhythm (...this isn't a typo, rhythm is one of the most important and yet most over looked topics on the guitar.)

Ear Training

Scales and Modes

Rhythm (Again, not a typo, it's THAT important!)

Organization

Accountability

Those last two ideas are critical to success on the instrument. Whether you want to strum a few songs at an open mic night, or be able to improvise over Giant Steps, it's important to have an organized, goal oriented approach.

With this in mind I've developed a series of programs designed to take you from point A to point Z one step at a time. This is where the accountability comes into play. One of the biggest complaints I hear from my students is that previous teachers would often assign material and then never even go over it. Not me. If we're working through something, we're gonna make sure we get it right, even if that takes a couple of weeks. One of the of the most important aspects of private instruction is the consistency of having to show up every week. I firmly believe that despite all the different styles of music or levels of players out there, everyone should have the same goal and that is to be better than you were the day before. If you can do that, time will take care of the rest. That's what I've designed these programs to do. Take a look at what I've got below. Interested in a topic you don't see here? Drop me a line and we can work out a plan tailored to you.

Early in my teaching career I wanted to be the "cool" teacher. Showing up each week with a new flashy lick or concept, but never seeing the results I wanted from my students. Pretty quickly I realized there needed to be a better way. I was also becaming frustrated with much of the educational material that was already out there, especially for beginners, because I find it too often to be either incomplete or haphazardly organized. I decided to create my own curriculum that attacks the necessary skills in an organized and graduated manner. Many things that appear difficult can be learned a lot more easily when you break them down into their component parts first.

While the guitar is my specialty, I also offer beginner to intermediate lessons on Pedal Steel, Dobro, and Bass guitar. I apply the same sense of organization and accountability to these instruments as I do the guitar.

Pricing and Policies are the same as my guitar lessons.
